About Rhymes Box
Rhymes Box finds rhymes the way a writer needs them: the words people actually use come first, each pronunciation of a word gets its own list, and near rhymes are there when nothing rhymes perfectly. We cover 50,632 English words and have a rhyme page for 34,042 of them.
How we find rhymes
- Two words are a perfect rhyme when they sound the same from the last stressed vowel to the end (light / delight). Unstressed vowels after the stress count as the same schwa sound, so beautiful rhymes with dutiful.
- Near rhymes are scored by how close their sounds are: matching the stressed vowel matters most, then the final consonant, then the rest. Similar consonants (like t and d) count as close.
- Lists are sorted by how common each word is in English. Rare words are hidden behind a button, and offensive words are left out entirely.
- Syllables and stress come from each word's pronunciation, not its spelling. The written split (or-ange) uses standard hyphenation patterns and is shown only when it matches the spoken syllables.
